Situated on a historic section of
granite breakwater, thirty feet from river edge in Battery Park, New
York City.
This breakwater, adjacent to Pier A was originally part of a
protective shelter for thousands of immigrants who were transported
to Manhattan by small vessels after their processing on Ellis
Island.When you stand
on the Battery Park Esplanade and look across thirty feet of water
you view the Memorial against the background of the harbor, the
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
