Situated on a historic section of granite breakwater, thirty feet from river edge in Battery Park, New York City.
This breakwater, adjacent to Pier A was originally part of a protective shelter for thousands of immigrants who were transported to Manhattan by small vessels after their processing on Ellis Island.

When you stand on the Battery Park Esplanade and look across thirty feet of water you view the Memorial against the background of the harbor, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
